With the pandemic ravaging our world, something as simple as a sneeze can send some of us into fear or panic of what it might be caused by. Of course, it could be caused by the coronavirus, but many other things can cause various symptoms like a sore throat, a cough, and even a fever. As we all know, the common cold causes the same symptoms. The flu also does the same!
So, how do you, as a parent, know what’s affecting your children to get them the right treatment? Here are some of the things to look out for:
More often than not, the symptoms of the flu are pretty mild. If your kids did catch the flu, they might feel a little worst off than they would if they caught a common cold. Regardless, the symptoms include chills, headaches, and body aches. They might also have a runny nose, sore throat, and they might cough a bit. All in all, if your kids were to catch the flu, they would usually feel tired and easily annoyed. They also wouldn’t want to eat much because they might have belly pain, diarrhea, and the like.
If you are worried about these symptoms, don’t be hesitant to send your kids to the doctor. They can test your children and prescribe some antiviral meds to help the children ease the symptoms.
Remember that the flu can cause some individuals to be quite ill, so it doesn’t hurt to send the kids to the hospital.
The Common Cold
The symptoms of the cold are quite similar to the flu and are sometimes much milder. The symptoms of the common cold include a runny nose and sneezing. Fever can also become a symptom, although it won’t be too bad. However, children who catch a cold usually still have normal energy levels, and they will still eat normally.
To treat the cold, all you need to do is ensure your child gets plenty of rest. There’s no real medicine to treat the common cold apart from letting it run its course.
Surprisingly enough, if your kids were to catch COVID-19, the symptoms would be almost non-existent, if not mild. In fact, it might just seem like the common cold. However, the primary sign that your child is dealing with COVID-19 and not the common cold or the flu is that they have lost the sense of taste and smell.
If you see this sign and are worried that your child has contracted the virus, bring them to the doctor for a check. Keep in mind that there is no medicine for the virus. If it is found that your child is dealing with the virus particularly well, resting and plenty of liquids are what they need. If they get quite ill, your child will need to be hospitalized.
If you have any doubts or concerns about what your child or children have caught, bring them to the doctor. Even if it is just a common cold, you cannot go wrong with being sure about what your kids are dealing with. If it is found that they are simply dealing with the cold, then you can rest easy knowing that they will recover well. However, if it is found that they are dealing with the flu or even COVID-19, the doctor can immediately take the right course of action to ensure your child can be on the road to recovery to enjoy a happy, healthy life once again!
